To make galvanized steel, ordinary steel is dipped in a bath of molten zinc. This is called a hot dip. Another method used to form coatings in many cases is electro-dipping, a process in which steel is dipped in an electrolyte solution containing zinc and electrolysis is used to form the coating.
To make stainless steel, ordinary steel is mixed with chromium, and when both are in a molten state, they are mixed in different ratios, depending on the type of stainless steel being prepared. Once the mixture is allowed to cool, it hardens into a solid state, at which point the composite is treated with acid to remove any impurities that may be adhering to the surface.
The difference between stainless steel and galvanized steel is as follows:
Galvanizing refers to coating a layer of metal zinc on the surface of the steel plate to prevent corrosion on the surface of the steel plate and prolong its service life. This zinc-coated thin steel plate is called a galvanized plate. Stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, and water, and chemically corrosive media such as acid, alkali, and salt, also known as stainless acid-resistant steel.
Galvanizing is mainly to coat a layer of dense zinc on the surface of the steel. Stainless steel is the addition of other metal elements inside the steel, and the internal structure changes to prevent the product from rusting.
Galvanized sheet steel products are mainly used in construction, light industry, automobile, agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery and commercial industries. For example, it is used for building roof panels, roof grilles, etc.; kitchen utensils, etc.; materials storage and transportation, packaging utensils, etc. Stainless steel is mainly used in the construction field and is one of the strongest materials in the construction of metal materials. It is also used in the fields of food processing, catering, brewing and chemical industry that require high hygienic conditions.
Galvanized steel is prepared by adding a coating of zinc to its surface to prevent corrosion, while stainless steel is mixed with ten percent or more chromium in its molten state. This means that galvanized steel consists of regular steel covered with zinc, while stainless steel consists of two separate metals completely mixed together.
The strength of galvanized steel is significantly lower than that of stainless steel. Because galvanized steel contains only a rust-resistant coating that wears away over time, it doesn't provide the long-term rust protection that stainless steel does, which contains a protective mixture of chromium to help prevent rust.
Galvanized steel is more affordable than stainless steel.
Galvanized steel is often used for projects with smaller budgets, rather than stainless steel, due to its weaker strength and lower price. Galvanized steel is widely used in the construction of pipes and fittings in houses. It is also used in the manufacture of air-conditioning units, in the manufacture of metal roofs for houses and chain link fencing. There is a range of products made from galvanized steel that take advantage of its ability to resist rust, withstand damage from severe weather, and be stronger and lighter than many other metals. Stainless steel is used for big-budget projects that require a lot of lifting or thick parts because it is more expensive and stronger. Therefore, stainless steel can be used to build skyscrapers, bridges, monuments and sculptures, automobiles, railways, airplanes and many other high-end products.
